Bonita Springs - Roy's Hawaiian Fusion

Roy's Hawaiian Fusion in Bonita Springs

Hidden away in the posh Promenade shopping center in Bonita Springs is Roy's Hawaiian Fusion restaurant.  For over eight years Roy's restaurant has been one of the premier destinations for special event dining in Southwest Florida.  Birthdays.  Engagements.  Anniversaries.  Graduations.  Promotions.  Whether you're welcoming someone home, sending someone off, celebrating your last day of a Florida vacation, or just want an all-around exceptional meal...Roy's in Bonita Springs has cultivated an enduring legacy as the ultimate place to enjoy vibrant food and celebrate special moments.

I decided to pay a visit to see if they were still rightfully honoring their longstanding traditions of carefully honed hospitality and cutting edge cuisine.

Cape Coral - Foster's Grill

Foster's Grill in Cape Coral

The other day I noticed Foster's Grille on Pine Island Road took home the dubious title of "Cape Coral's Best Hamburger" from one of our local media outlets.

These regional "Best Of" lists always worry me.  They're usually full of questionable winners and arcane categories.  This particular list had a category of "Best Aluminum Store".  I wonder what criteria was used by the voting public to narrow down the winner of that competition?  And who votes on these things anyway?  In an internet and cell-phone world, are there still people who take the time to fill out, and then mail in, newspaper forms like these?  Judging by the winners announced in many of the categories, I would guess the demographic responding to this particular survey consisted of four blue-haired, elderly, snowbird-women from Cleveland and some random guy who owns an aluminum store.

Fort Myers - Cheeseburger In Paradise

Cheeseburger in Paradise - Fort Myers

I want to admit my bias upfront on this review...I Love Cheeseburger in Paradise.

In my line of work, there are lots of restaurants and not enough time to try them all.  So, it's rare that I make multiple and/or consecutive visits to the same establishment.  But I've got a soft spot for Cheeseburger in Paradise.  I keep going back and it keeps getting better.

Bonita Springs - Lansdowne Street

Lansdowne Street - Bonita Springs

Almost everyone from Massachusetts knows Lansdowne Street is the road running behind Fenway Park.

Bonita Springs now has its own Lansdowne Street.  And while it's not located just a few footsteps from the legendary home of the Boston Red Sox, it sure feels like it from inside.

Cape Coral - Brew Babies

Brew Babies in Cape Coral

Nestled quietly on Lafayette Street, behind the Quality Inn, you'll find Brew of Cape Coral's current word-of-mouth, hidden gem restaurants.

Brew Babies name derives from the multitude of specialty coffees they regularly feature, including Hawaiian Kona and a strong Jamaican Blue Mountain.  The establishment was originally a breakfast and lunch cafe, but they began serving dinners in September of last year.  In the months that have followed, Brew Babies has become a buzz-word of sorts among the Cape Coral dining crowd.

The setting is an indoor/outdoor cafe.  There are two buildings connected by a courtyard.  The indoor dining areas are broken into small, cozy, and eclectic rooms.  The outdoor courtyard is appointed with plushly pillowed wicker furniture, garden bistro tables with umbrellas, and lush tropical greenery.  The entire restaurant is reminiscent of a quaint Key West, or even Cape Cod, eatery.
